About Us

Mason Bee Central is a family owned and run business. The wife does the bookkeeping and shipping, the kids count the tubes and do the packaging and I build the Mason bee homes and raise the bees, the cat and dog provide moral support, no thumbs, so not a lot of help.

We live on 7 acres of forested property and like you we care about our environment.

Helping others produce more local food through good pollination, is our focus.

We original started using Mason bees, over 15 years ago, when the honey bees started to disappear and our fruit tree production tapered off. Our 20 tree orchard now produces way more fruit than we can use, benefiting neighbours and family and occasionally deer or bear when they manage to find a way through the fence.

For the first several years of raising Mason bees we enjoyed successes and suffered through failures, learning from both. We started supplying friends, family and neighbors and the growing interest in Mason bees inspired the creation of a website. We have been selling Mason bees and Mason bee homes online since 2007

Our original investment in 20 Orchard mason bees has developed into a successful business. We currently maintain a base population of about 150,000 bees and distribute the increase among homeowners, orchards and garden stores.

Orchard mason bees have been a great experience for our family. Our kids love to watch them work and of course enjoy eating the fresh fruit and berries.

If you garden, Mason bees are strongly recommended. They will do more for you than any other single item you could purchase.

In 2015 we won NEDC’s “Best Environmental and Sustainable Business of the Year Award” and in 2018 Honorable Mention in NAPPC “Pollinator Advocate Award Canada” category.
