These natural lake bed reeds are 6 inches long with varied hole sizes from 4 to 7 mm. The slight size variation gives a female bee the choice of a nesting hole that is just right for her. These quality natural reeds are hand gathered and cut so that each reed has a node at the back preventing parasitic wasps from entering the reed.
Hole nesting native bees prefer reeds over tubes or wood trays. We believe this is due to the variety of sizes that help the female native bee find her hole easily.
Reeds are easy to open at harvest time, not to be confused with Bamboo tubes which are extremely difficult to open without damaging the cocoons.
Reeds are perfect for summer Leafcutter bees, other wild hole nesting bees as well as solitary beneficial pollinating wasps!
